Pensacola beats Louisiana 5-4 after comeback scare

The Louisiana IceGators tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Pensacola Ice Flyers held on for a 5-4 victory.

Pensacola made the score 5-2 on a goal by Joseph Holka at 8:26 in the second period, and Louisiana got as close as 5-4 when Blake Hietala scored 18:59 into the third period.

Holka was all over the ice for the Ice Flyers, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Holka scored the first of his two goals at 6:20 into the first period to make the score 3-0 Pensacola. Corey Banfield picked up the assist. Holka's next tally made the score 5-2 Pensacola with 11:34 left in the second period. Banfield provided the assist.

Pensacola stifled the IceGators' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Ice Flyers' goal total was higher than their season average. Pensacola averages 2.7 goals per game.

Pensacola additionally got points from Adam Pawlick, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Pensacola included Ryan Kesti and Joe Caveney, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Pensacola were Cole Ruwe, Mike Krieg, Jeremy Gates, Nick McParland, and Paul Rodrigues, who each chipped in one.

Louisiana excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The IceGators' offense rang up 34 shots on the Ice Flyers' net. Louisiana's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. The IceGators are averaging 2.5 goals against for the season.

Louisiana was helped by Jeremy Boyer, who registered one goal. Boyer scored 19:46 into the second period to make the score 5-3 Pensacola. Anthony Pisano assisted on the tally. Louisiana also had goals scored by Luke Kasteel and Jake Hauswirth, who scored one goal each. In addition, Louisiana received assists from Jordan Ciccarello, who had one and Alex Hudson, who had two.

Matt Zenzola rejected 30 shots on goal for Pensacola. The Ice Flyers ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. Adam Courchaine recorded 23 saves for the IceGators. Louisiana totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-4 on the power play.
