Knoxville uses shootout to best Macon Mayhem, 5-4 (3-1 SO)Macon Centreplex Fri, Oct 23, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
Shawn Skelly scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Knoxville Ice Bears picked up the extra point in a 5-4 (3-1 SO) win over Macon Mayhem. The two teams needed eight turns to complete the shootout. Macon Mayhem got a shootout goal from John Schiavo. In addition to the clincher, Knoxville got shootout goals from Jackson Brewer and Skelly.The Ice Bears excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Macon Mayhem was unable to stop Knoxville from sending pucks towards the net, and the Ice Bears eventually piled up 36 shots on goal. Knoxville was led by Trever Hertz, who grabbed two goals. Hertz scored the first of his two goals at 1:46 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Knoxville. Brewer provided the assist. Hertz's next tally made the score 4-4 with 10 seconds left in the second period. Bo Driscoll picked up the assist. Knoxville also got points from Skelly, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Knoxville also got a goal from Josh Cousineau as well. More assists for Knoxville came via Brad Pawlowski, who had one and Bret Peppler and Lou Educate, who each chipped in two. With 45 shots on target during the contest, Macon Mayhem exceeded the 27.5 shots it averages per game this year. Macon Mayhem was helped by Connor P. Toomey, who had two goals. Toomey scored the first of his two goals at 6:30 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Knoxville. Jason Popek provided the assist. Toomey's next tally made the score 4-3 Macon Mayhem with 7:29 left in the second period. Vadim Guskov assisted on the tally. Macon Mayhem additionally got points from Guskov, who also registered one goal and one assist and Popek, who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, Macon Mayhem received assists from Jesse Felten, who had two and Curtis Megginson, Michael Wills, and Joshua Ranalli, who contributed one each. Braely Torris rejected 41 shots on goal for the Ice Bears. Knoxville incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Garrett Bartus recorded 31 saves for Macon Mayhem. Macon Mayhem incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
