Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the M1 Minot State University Beavers defeated the M1 Liberty University Flames in a shootout 7-6 (1-0 SO).

M1 Minot State University overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Beavers trailed 5-3 after a power play goal by M1 Liberty University's Michael Bunn at 3:09 in the third period. M1 Minot State University tied things up at 6-6 on a goal by Bunn at 19:13 in the third period.

Bryce Lipinski was all over the ice for the Beavers, as he registered two goals in the win. Lipinski's tallies came at 2:01 into the second period to make the score 3-2 M1 Minot State University and 10:21 into the third to make the score 5-5.

M1 Minot State University forced the Flames goalie Cary Byron to work between the pipes, taking 54 shots.
