M1 Towson University uses early goal to top M1 Drexel University, 3-2

The M1 Towson University Tigers beat the M1 Drexel University Dragons, 3-2, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout.

Tyler Darby provided M1 Towson University with the game-winning tally when he scored 13:47 into the first period.

The Tigers were paced by Matthew Mcguire, who tallied one goal and one assist. Mcguire scored on the power play 1:21 into the second period to make the score 3-1 M1 Towson University. Chris Szoka picked up the assist.

M1 Towson University forced M1 Drexel University goalie Dillon Gravenstine to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. The Tigers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

M1 Towson University also got a goal from Matt Stella as well. In addition, M1 Towson University received assists from Jeremy Snyder, who had two.

The Dragons forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. M1 Drexel University surpassed its season average of 12.0 penalty minutes per game. With 40 shots on target during the contest, the Dragons exceeded the 0.7 shots they average per game this year.

M1 Drexel University was helped by Christopher Hagen, who had one goal. Hagen scored on the power play 9:50 into the second period to make the score 3-2 M1 Towson University. The Dragons earned a power play opportunity when Peter Gallagher was put in the box for high sticking. John Quigley assisted on the tally. Nick Kinosian also scored for M1 Drexel University. Other players who recorded assists for M1 Drexel University were Christopher Rodrigue and Tyler Shagen, who contributed one each.

M1 Towson University's Tyler Stewardson stopped 38 shots out of the 40 that he faced. The Tigers registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. Dillon Gravenstine made 31 saves for M1 Drexel University on 34 shots. The Dragons registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
