M2 Army outlasts M1 Naval Academy ^ United States, 5-3McMullen Ice Center Sat, Jan 30, 2016 M2 Army and the M1 Naval Academy ^ United States Midshipmen were evenly matched throughout their contest, but M2 Army made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3. M2 Army gained the winning advantage on a goal by Thane Heller 11:03 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. Heller had two goals to lead M2 Army to victory. M2 Army's penalty kill excelled, as M2 Army gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays. M2 Army could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game. M2 Army also got points from Kyle Vogel, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. M2 Army also had goals scored by Cory Miller and Austin Pearson, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for M2 Army were James Morsch, Jimmy Callan, Matt Ouellette, Chris Callahan, and Andrew OLeary, who each chipped in one. M1 Naval Academy ^ United States put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow M2 Army to score on any of its three power plays. The 48 shots that the Midshipmen put on net surpassed M1 Naval Academy ^ United States' average of 0.5 shots per game this season. The Midshipmen were helped by Matthew Harrigan, who finished with two goals and one assist. Harrigan scored the first of his two goals at 19:02 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Matthew Caine assisted on the tally. Harrigan's next tally made the score 3-3 with 15:57 left in the third period. Caine provided the assist.
