Niagara Falls holds on for 3-2 win against Chatham

The Chatham Maroons tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Niagara Falls Canucks held on for a 3-2 victory.

Niagara Falls took a 3-0 lead during the first period, only to have Chatham storm back on a Logan Percy goal 18:56 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Canucks pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 33 penalty minutes.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 7:59 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Niagara Falls managed to hold the Maroons' power play largely in check, allowing only one goal while on the disadvantage.

The Canucks were helped by Zachary Plumb, who tallied one goal. Plumb scored 1:51 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Niagara Falls. Jeffrey Venzon picked up the assist. Others who scored for Niagara Falls included Thomas Flack and Peter Falivena, who each put in one. In addition, Niagara Falls received assists from Sean Farquharson, Zack Lansfield, Aviv Milner, and Matthew Marsden, who each chipped in one.

Chatham was often in penalty trouble, totaling 15 minors and one major for 65 minutes in penalty time. The Maroons surpassed its season average of 37.0 penalty minutes per game. Niagara Falls was unable to stop Chatham from sending pucks towards the net, and the Maroons eventually piled up 35 shots on goal. Chatham excelled on the penalty kill, only allowing the Canucks to get one power play goal on 12 chances.

The Maroons were helped by Ian Faubert, who registered one goal. Faubert scored short handed 8:35 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Niagara Falls. Chatham was on a disadvantage when Luc Knight went off the ice for cross checking. Other players who recorded assists for Chatham were Connor McKinnon and Steven Beenackers, who contributed one each.

Joseph Murdaca made 33 saves for Niagara Falls on 35 shots. For the Canucks, Flack was ejected from the game. Colin Lauzon rejected 21 shots on goal for the Maroons. Chatham ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brayden Hopkins was ejected from the game.
