Leamington blows out Cambridge, 8-3

The Leamington Flyers had a five-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to an 8-3 win over the Cambridge Winter Hawks.

Leamington got the win with help from a great game by Mark Gangnon, who had one goal and two assists. Gangnon scored 7:51 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Leamington. Cale Allen picked up the assist.

The Flyers' penalty kill excelled, as Leamington gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

The Flyers forced Cambridge's goalies to work without much rest, launching 35 shots and forcing 27 saves. Scott Patton made 21 stops and Owen Savory made six. Leamington outdid its season average for goals scored. The Flyers average 4.1 goals per game.

Leamington additionally got points from Mitchell Amante, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Leamington also had goals scored by Scott Emerson and Matthew Opblinger, who scored two goals each and Joe Urbanic and Derek Elliott, who each put in one. More assists for Leamington came via J.P. Grineau and Zach Guilbeault, who each chipped in one and Mitchell Crevatin and Colin Moore, who contributed two each.

Others who scored for Cambridge included Beau Goehrum, Matt Steen, and Alex Mutton, who scored one goal each. In addition, Cambridge received assists from Scott Del Zotto, Kyle Heitzner, Matt MacKay, Cole Cummings, Kalob Witzell, and Raphael Lecours, who each chipped in one.

Michael Barrett rejected 25 shots on goal for Leamington. The Flyers incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. The Winter Hawks incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
