Ancaster blows out Welland, 9-2

The Ancaster Avalanche had a four-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 9-2 win over the Welland Jr. Canadians.

Jesse Hilton was all over the ice for Ancaster, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Hilton scored the first of his two goals at 3:47 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ancaster. Owen Burnell picked up the assist. Hilton's next tally made the score 7-2 Ancaster with 19:43 left in the third period. Reilly Webb provided the assist.

The Avalanche forced Welland's goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, ripping 45 shots and forcing 36 saves. Brandon McCorriston made 26 stops and Chris Janzen made 10. Ancaster bested its season scoring average. The Avalanche average 4.2 goals per game.

Ancaster additionally got points from Adam Meijer, who also tallied one goal and two assists, Max Balinson, who also racked up one goal and two assists, Zach Lawrence, who also had one goal and two assists, Tyler Bell, who also registered one goal and one assist, Fedor Gordeev, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Burnell, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Ancaster also got a goal from Matt Mannella as well. In addition, Ancaster received assists from Joshua Pace, who had one and Michael Pollice and Lucas Pozzobon, who each chipped in two.

The Jr. Canadians managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Welland finished below its season average of 14.0 penalty minutes per game.

The Jr. Canadians were led by Jack Fitzgerald, who racked up two goals. Fitzgerald scored the first of his two goals at 4:43 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Adam Barron assisted on the tally. Fitzgerald's next tally made the score 6-2 Ancaster with one second1 seconds left in the second period. Cole Hamilton picked up the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Welland were Tyler Stranges, who had one.

Ancaster's starting goalie, Cole Ceci, made 15 saves and finished with the win before he was taken out in favor of Vincenzo D`Elia, who stopped five shots. The Avalanche incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Welland registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
