Leamington holds on for 3-2 win against Chatham

The Leamington Flyers survived a determined comeback attempt by the Chatham Maroons on the way to a 3-2 win.

A goal by Mitchell Amante put Leamington up 3-1 in the third period, but Chatham pulled to within one on Ryan Fraser's tally 16:43 into the third period.

Amante had a great game for the Flyers, netting two goals.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 12:57 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Leamington racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 10 minors and three majors for 55 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 32.0 minutes per game the Flyers had been spending in the box. The Maroons were unable to stop Leamington from sending pucks towards the net, and the Flyers eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.

Derek Elliott also scored for Leamington. More assists for Leamington came via Joe Urbanic, who had two and Mitchell Crevatin, Mark Manchurek, Matthew Opblinger, and Thomas Virban, who each chipped in one.

Chatham was often in penalty trouble, totaling five minors and two majors for 50 minutes in penalty time. The Maroons surpassed its season average of 26.0 penalty minutes per game. Chatham's offense operated below its season average. The Maroons put an average of 4.7 pucks into the net per game. Chatham was held back by its power play unit, which tallied one goal on nine chances.

The Maroons were helped by Mark Fratarcangelli, who had one goal. Fratarcangelli scored 15:50 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Ian Faubert picked up the assist. In addition, Chatham received assists from Devin Panzeca and Gus Ford, who contributed one each.

Tyler Wall made 20 saves for Leamington on 22 shots. The Flyers registered one goal on four power play opportunities. For Leamington, Opblinger, Zach Guilbeault, Amante, and David Storey were ejected from the contest. Chatham's Parker Butler stopped 34 shots out of the 37 that he faced. Team's Teddy McGeen and Michael Levesque were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
