Willms' big game bests Elmira in 7-2 Kitchener win

The Kitchener Dutchmen's Jason Willms had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing two assists in his team's 7-2 win over the Elmira Sugar Kings.

Willms scored at 10:14 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kitchener and again while short handed 19:31 into the first to make the score 3-1 Kitchener.

Kitchener kept Elmira's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jonathan Reinhart made 28 saves on 35 shots. The Dutchmen surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Kitchener averages 4.9 goals per game. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Kitchener also got points from Matthew Cruickshank, who also registered two goals and one assist and Ryan Migliaccio, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Kitchener also had goals scored by Nicolas Munro and Ryan George, who each put in one. In addition, Kitchener received assists from Logan Schmidt, who had two and JD Sterne, Marselis Subban, Austin Gaboury, Owen Lane, and Taite Wirschke, who contributed one each.

The Sugar Kings forced the Dutchmen's goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, taking 41 shots and forcing 39 saves. Luke Richardson made 39 stops and Cossimo Lazzarino made zero.

Elmira was helped by Kevin Fitzpatrick, who had one goal. Fitzpatrick scored on the power play 5:32 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Kitchener. The Sugar Kings had gotten the advantage when Kitchener's Connor Cole was sent off for holding stick. Quinten Bruce assisted on the tally. Elmira additionally got points from Bruce, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Elmira also got a goal from Ethan Skinner as well. Other players who recorded assists for Elmira were Rob Kohli, Jeff Jordan, and Klayton Hoelscher, who each chipped in one.

The Dutchmen incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Elmira incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
