Thorold wins tough contest against Welland, 4-3

The Thorold Blackhawks gutted out a close 4-3 win against the Welland Jr. Canadians.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Cal Davis secured the win for Thorold with a goal in the third period.

David D`Agostino had two goals to lead the Blackhawks to victory. D`Agostino scored at 12:37 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Thorold and again while 13:00 into the second to make the score 3-3.

Welland was unable to stop Thorold from sending pucks towards the net, and the Blackhawks eventually piled up 35 shots on goal. Thorold's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals.

Thorold also got a goal from Rick Eberhart as well. More assists for Thorold came via Brendan D`Agostino, Alex Remedios, and Nick Sacco, who contributed one each.

The Jr. Canadians managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Welland wound up below its season average of 14.0 penalty minutes per game. The Jr. Canadians kept the Blackhawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Josh Astorino made 42 saves on 45 shots.

Welland was led by Tyler Stranges, who registered one goal and one assist. Stranges scored on the power play 8:10 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Jack Fitzgerald assisted on the tally. Welland also had goals scored by Patrick Desjardins and Steven Farano, who each put in one. In addition, Welland received assists from Adam Barron, who had two.

Thorold incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Chris Janzen rejected 31 shots on goal for the Jr. Canadians. Welland registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
