Guelph downs Waterloo in overtime, 6-5 (OT)

The Guelph Hurricanes pulled out a 6-5 (OT) overtime victory over the Waterloo Siskins on a clutch goal by Cameron Palmer.

The teams traded the lead four times and neither team could skate away and hide. Waterloo took its last lead at 28 seconds in the third on a goal by Gary Mantz to make the score 5-4 the Siskins. Guelph took over the lead for good with a power play goal by Palmer 1:22 into the fourth to make the score 6-5.

The Hurricanes forced Waterloo goalie Mitchell Datz to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots. Guelph's goal total was higher than its season average. The Hurricanes average 3.7 goals per game.

Guelph also got points from Ryan Waterhouse, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Alex Ritchie, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Cameron Stokes also scored for Guelph. In addition, Guelph received assists from Chris Poletek, Quinn Hanna, and Tyler Burns, who contributed one each and Ryan Burns and Brody Milne, who each chipped in two.

The Siskins' offense rang up 32 shots on Guelph's net.

Waterloo additionally got points from Nick Hirst, who also racked up one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. Waterloo also got a goal from Luke Gazzola as well. More assists for Waterloo came via Nick King, Thomas Haffner, and Brett Schaefer, who contributed one each and Conner Jean and Anthony Pullicino, who each chipped in two.

Jason DaSilva made 27 saves for the Hurricanes on 32 shots. Guelph incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Waterloo's Datz stopped 38 shots out of the 44 that he faced. The Siskins incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
