Sarnia squeaks by Lambton Shores, 6-4

The Sarnia Legionnaires gutted out a close 6-4 win against the Lambton Shores Predators.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Alec DeKoning at 17:17 of the second period.

Sarnia got the win thanks to a great game by Jordan Fogarty, who had two goals and one assist. Fogarty scored the first of his two goals at 3:04 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Lambton Shores. Ryan Trottier picked up the assist. Fogarty's next tally made the score 3-3 with 10:04 left in the second period. The Legionnaires had gained a power play chance when Gino Mini was whistled for high sticking. Brandon Layman assisted on the tally.

Sarnia forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and one major for 37 minutes in penalty time. The Legionnaires surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. Sarnia forced Lambton Shores goalie Keegan Paulette to work between the pipes, taking 52 shots. The Legionnaires found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Sarnia averages 3.4 goals per contest.

Sarnia also got points from Ryan Vendramin, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, DeKoning, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Brad Yowart, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Sarnia also got a goal from Joey Zappa as well. More assists for Sarnia came via Derrick Johnson, Eric Marsh, and Brendan Shagena, who each chipped in one.

The Predators kept the Legionnaires' goalie busy throughout the game, and Aidan Hughes made 35 saves on 39 shots.

Lambton Shores was helped by Ethan Sarfati, who tallied one goal. Sarfati scored on the power play 10:55 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Lambton Shores. The Predators had gotten the advantage when Sarnia's Zappa was sent off for high sticking. Connor Merritt picked up the assist. Lambton Shores also had goals scored by Carson Pearce, Marcel Berube, and Cole Braney, who scored one goal each. In addition, Lambton Shores received assists from Ben Woo and Andrew Kim, who contributed one each and Calvin Hughson and Colin Burns, who each chipped in two.

The Legionnaires registered two goals on five power play opportunities. For Sarnia, Jacob Stos and Ethan Dupont were ejected from the contest. Keegan Paulette made 46 saves for Lambton Shores on 51 shots. The Predators incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
