Vella leads St. Marys to shutout victory over Strathroy

Emanuel Vella was superb between the pipes for the St. Marys Lincolns, as he did not allow a goal in a 4-0 victory over the Strathroy Rockets.

St. Marys was sparked by Brent House, who grabbed one goal. House scored 1:00 into the second period to make the score 1-0 St. Marys. Nolan King assisted on the tally.

The Lincolns put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Strathroy to score on any of its five power plays.

St. Marys also had goals scored by Matt Granger, Phillip Buque, and Dan Cloutier, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for St. Marys were Nathan Smith, who had two and Trent Dundas, Jeff Schrattner, Jordan Winter, and Ryan Martin, who each chipped in one.

The Rockets' offense operated below their season average. Strathroy puts an average of 2.8 pucks into the net per game.

Vella rejected 25 shots on goal for St. Marys. The Lincolns totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-6 on the power play. St. Marys ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Winter was ejected from the game. Dan Davies made 20 saves for the Rockets on 23 shots. Strathroy ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major. For the Rockets, Matthew Stevens was ejected from the game.
