St. Thomas survives LaSalle comeback, wins 10-8

The LaSalle Vipers tried their best to erase a five-goal deficit, but the St. Thomas Stars would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 10-8.

St. Thomas made the score 10-5 on a goal by Gage Stephney at 15:50 in the second period, and LaSalle got as close as 10-8 when Zack Hoffman scored 14:37 into the third period.

Ethan Nother had four goals and one assist to lead the Stars. Nother's first goal came 5:26 into the first period. He then added goals at 9:23 into the first, at 18:25 into the first, and at 3:04 into the second.

St. Thomas forced the Vipers' goalies to work all game long, launching 31 shots and forcing 21 saves. Paolo Battisti made 18 stops and Colin Tetreault made three. The Stars found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. St. Thomas averages 4.2 goals per game. The Stars' penalty kill unit could not stop LaSalle's power play, which converted on two of three opportunities.

St. Thomas additionally got points from Jake Reed, who also registered two goals and one assist, Matt McJannet, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Carson Brookshaw, who also had two goals and three assists to lead the team in points. In addition, St. Thomas received assists from Dan Black, Carson Moniz, James Newland, Lucas Mastroianni, and Carter McCormick, who contributed one each and Adam Keyes and Cal Horvat, who each chipped in two.

The Vipers kept St. Thomas' goalie busy throughout the game, and Black made 24 saves on 32 shots. LaSalle's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Vipers average 4.3 goals per contest.

LaSalle was helped by Maddux Rychel, who tallied one goal and two assists. Rychel scored 7:43 into the second period to make the score 6-4 St. Thomas. Eric Kirby provided the assist. LaSalle also got points from Kirby, who also registered one goal and one assist, Daniel Beaudoin, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, and Brett Primeau, who also finished with two goals and one assist. LaSalle also had goals scored by Cale Allen and Manny Silverio, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for LaSalle were Clay Kraynack, Matthew Doucette, Ryan Sarris, and Tyler Russell, who contributed one each and Liam MacDougall, Nathan Savage, and Connor Rosaasen, who each chipped in two.

The Stars incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Vipers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
