Kitchener wins tough contest against Elmira, 3-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Kitchener Dutchmen escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Elmira Sugar Kings.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Austin Gaboury secured the win for Kitchener with a goal in the third period.

The Dutchmen's penalty kill excelled, as Kitchener gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

The Dutchmen were led by Gaboury, who tallied one goal and one assist. Gaboury scored 10:56 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Kitchener. Owen Lane provided the assist.

Kitchener forced Elmira goalie Jonathan Reinhart to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. The Dutchmen could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 40 minutes in penalties during the game.

Kitchener additionally got points from Lane, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Kitchener also got a goal from Alex Demrovsky as well. Other players who recorded assists for Kitchener were Logan Schmidt, who had two and Tyler Dam and Jason Willms, who contributed one each.

The Sugar Kings stifled Kitchener's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Elmira was led by Mackenzie MacSorley, who racked up one goal and one assist. MacSorley scored on the power play 2:12 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Elmira. The Sugar Kings earned a power play opportunity when Willms was put in the box for tripping. Kevin Fitzpatrick assisted on the tally. Jeff Jordan also scored for Elmira. In addition, Elmira received assists from Rob Kohli and Ethan Skinner, who each chipped in one.

Luke Richardson rejected 22 shots on goal for the Dutchmen. Kitchener registered zero goals on four power play opportunities. Jonathan Reinhart made 28 saves for Elmira on 31 shots. The Sugar Kings ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. Elmira ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jake Moggy was ejected from the game.
