Kitchener erases deficit to stun Waterloo, 8-5

The Kitchener Dutchmen rallied from four goals down to secure an 8-5 win over the Waterloo Siskins.

Kitchener never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Dutchmen trailed 5-1 after a power play goal by Waterloo's Conner Jean at 15:54 in the second period. Kitchener knotted things up at 5-5 on a goal by Owen Lane at 7:20 in the third period. The Dutchmen scored the game winner at 7:41 in the third period on a goal by Lane.

Lane had two goals and two assists to lead Kitchener. Lane scored the first of his two goals at 5:16 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Waterloo. Jason Willms assisted on the tally. Lane's next tally made the score 5-5 with 12:40 left in the third period. Willms picked up the assist.

The Dutchmen's offense rang up 38 shots on the Siskins' net. Kitchener bested its season scoring average. The Dutchmen average 5.0 goals per game. Kitchener's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Dutchmen finished with 26 penalty minutes.

Kitchener also got points from Alex Demrovsky, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Carmine Vietri, who also had one goal and one assist, and Willms, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Kitchener also got a goal from Connor Cole as well. More assists for Kitchener came via Michael Alberga, Logan Schmidt, Matthew Cruickshank, and Austin Gaboury, who contributed one each and Nathan Grossi and Adam Kawalec, who each chipped in two.

Waterloo could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 34 minutes in penalties during the game.

Kitchener took out Cossimo Lazzarino after he had made six saves and installed Luke Richardson in goal, where he finished with 16 saves and the win. The Dutchmen registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Mitchell Datz made 30 saves for the Siskins on 38 shots. Waterloo registered two goals on six power play opportunities.
