Ancaster blows out Fort Erie, 6-2

The Fort Erie Meteors had trouble finding ways to stop the Ancaster Avalanche, which beat Meteors, 6-2.

Ben Hughes was all over the ice for Ancaster, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Hughes scored the first of his two goals at 8:41 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ancaster. Jesse Hilton assisted on the tally. Hughes' next tally made the score 6-2 Ancaster with 13:07 left in the third period. Michael Pollice picked up the assist.

The Avalanche forced Fort Erie's goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, getting 37 shots and forcing 31 saves. Riley Daniels made 20 stops and Brayden Lachance made 11.

Ancaster also got points from Pollice, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Ancaster also got a goal from Cole Nagy as well. Other players who recorded assists for Ancaster were Dustin Burr, Owen Norton, and Tyler Bell, who each chipped in one and Max Balinson and Matt Mannella, who contributed two each.

The Meteors managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Fort Erie finished below its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. Ancaster was unable to stop the Meteors from sending pucks towards the net, and Fort Erie eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

The Meteors were helped by Holden Garlent, who tallied one goal and one assist. Garlent scored on the power play 12:54 into the second period to make the score 5-1 Ancaster. Fort Erie had gained a power play chance when Fedor Gordeev was whistled for high sticking. Ben Evans assisted on the tally. Fort Erie additionally got points from Anthony Passero, who also finished with one goal and one assist. In addition, Fort Erie received assists from Danial Singer, who had one.

Cole Ceci made 32 saves for the Avalanche on 34 shots. Ancaster incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Meteors registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
