Listowel beats Waterloo 5-4 after comeback scare

The Waterloo Siskins tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Listowel Cyclones held on for a 5-4 victory.

Listowel made the score 5-2 on a goal by Ben Shelley at 17:30 in the second period, and Waterloo got as close as 5-4 when Conner Jean scored 12:45 into the third period.

Tim Nauta had a great game for the Cyclones, netting two goals. Nauta's tallies came on the power play at 14:53 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Listowel and on the power play 4:58 into the second to make the score 3-1 Listowel.

Listowel's offense rang up 32 shots on the Siskins' net.

Jordan Caskenette also scored for Listowel. More assists for Listowel came via Keaton Willis and Blake Nichol, who contributed one each and Brady Anderson, Kade Landry, Ray McFalls, and Jamie Huber, who each chipped in two.

Waterloo forced the Cyclones goalie Tyler Fassl to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

The Siskins were led by Nate Schnarr, who racked up one goal and one assist. Schnarr scored on the power play 19:44 into the second period to make the score 5-3 Listowel. Waterloo earned a power play opportunity when Jakob Lee was put in the box for high sticking. Nick King assisted on the tally. Others who scored for Waterloo included Lucas Goodman and Brett Schaefer, who each put in one. In addition, Waterloo received assists from Joshua Slegers, Gary Mantz, Austin Bentley, Jared Lindsay, and Ryan Sparkes, who contributed one each.

Fassl recorded 30 saves for Listowel. The Cyclones incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Mitchell Datz made 27 saves for the Siskins on 32 shots. Waterloo incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
