Gray stymies Niagara Falls, St. Catharines wins 4-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Cameron Gray helped the St. Catharines Falcons defeat the Niagara Falls Canucks, 4-1.

Jake Evans had a great game for St. Catharines, netting two goals. Evans found the back of the net on the power play 1:47 into the third period to make the score 2-1 St. Catharines and again while 19:19 into the third to make the score 4-1 St. Catharines.

The Falcons' penalty kill excelled, as St. Catharines gave up zero goals despite allowing eight power plays.

The Falcons stifled Niagara Falls' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. St. Catharines could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

St. Catharines additionally got points from Tyler Hildebrandt, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Mitchell Webb also scored for St. Catharines. In addition, St. Catharines received assists from Nicholas Dozzi, who had three and Justin Felker, James Guest, Broderick Kelly, and Owen Green, who each chipped in one.

The Canucks were held below their usual level of production. Niagara Falls puts an average of 3.6 pucks into the net per game. The Canucks forced the Falcons goalie Gray to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots. Niagara Falls' penalty kill was ineffective, and let in two goals to St. Catharines' power play unit.

The Canucks were led by Thomas Flack, who scored the team's only goal. Flack scored 4:02 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Niagara Falls. Cristian DiFonzo picked up the assist.

Gray rejected 39 shots on goal for the Falcons. Niagara Falls' Adam Dentico stopped 14 shots out of the 17 that he faced. The Canucks incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
