Welland boosted by Janzen's play in net, beats Fort Erie 3-1

Chris Janzen stood on his head and made 33 saves to lead the Welland Jr. Canadians to a 3-1 victory over the Fort Erie Meteors.

Welland's penalty kill excelled, as the Jr. Canadians gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Welland was sparked by Adam Barron, who registered one goal and one assist. Barron scored on the power play 6:36 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Welland. The Jr. Canadians earned a power play opportunity when Danial Singer was put in the box for unsportsmanlike conduct. Tyler Stranges provided the assist.

Welland stifled Fort Erie's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Meteors were unable to stop the Jr. Canadians from sending pucks towards the net, and Welland eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

Welland additionally got points from Stranges, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Welland also got a goal from Jake Shaw as well. In addition, Welland received assists from Brayden Crowder, who had two and Bradey Johnson and Nathan MacDuff, who contributed one each.

Fort Erie was held below its usual level of production. The Meteors put an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game. Fort Erie's offense rang up 34 shots on the Jr. Canadians' net.

The Meteors were led by Anthony Passero, who scored the team's only goal. Passero scored 48 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fort Erie. Ben Evans picked up the assist.

Welland incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Riley Daniels made 29 saves for Fort Erie on 31 shots. The Meteors incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For Fort Erie, Troy Henley was ejected from the game.
