St. Thomas hangs on, beats Sarnia 2-0

Adam Truax scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the St. Thomas Stars held off the challenges of the Sarnia Legionnaires in a tough 2-0 win.

Truax provided St. Thomas with the game-winning tally when he scored 6:59 into the first period. Carson Brookshaw picked up the assist.

Dan Black frustrated Sarnia's offense all game, and stopped 29 shots en route to a shutout. The solid play of Black will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.85.

The Stars were led by Truax, who finished with one goal.

St. Thomas put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Legionnaires to score on any of their three power plays. The Stars did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. St. Thomas puts an average of 4.3 pucks into the net per game.

St. Thomas also got a goal from Ethan Nother as well. In addition, St. Thomas received assists from James Newland, who had two.

Sarnia excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Legionnaires' offense operated below their season average. Sarnia averages 3.3 goals per game.

The Stars incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. Aidan Hughes rejected 23 shots on goal for the Legionnaires. Sarnia incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
