Guelph falls to Elmira in overtime, 2-1 (OT)

The Elmira Sugar Kings pulled out a 2-1 (OT) overtime victory over the Guelph Hurricanes on a clutch goal by Zac Coulter.

Elmira's Liam Devine was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 33 saves and let only one puck past him. Devine certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.03 entering the contest.

Guelph's power play was ineffective against the Sugar Kings' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 14:25 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Elmira stifled the Hurricanes' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Sugar Kings forced Guelph goalie Jason DaSilva to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Ryan Maksymyk also scored for Elmira. In addition, Elmira received assists from Quinten Bruce, Kyle Soper, and Kalob Witzell, who each chipped in one.

The Hurricanes were held below their usual level of production. Guelph puts an average of 3.6 pucks into the net per game. The Hurricanes' offense rang up 34 shots on Elmira's net.

Guelph was led by Stefano Pezzetta, who scored the team's only goal. Pezzetta scored 17:21 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Jake Wyse picked up the assist.

The Sugar Kings totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. For Elmira, Ethan Skinner and Ty Biles were ejected from the contest. Jason DaSilva made 31 saves for the Hurricanes on 33 shots. Guelph ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. For the Hurricanes, Cameron Palmer was ejected from the game.
