St. Marys falls to Strathroy in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

Lucas Latina gave the Strathroy Rockets a 5-4 (OT) victory over the St. Marys Lincolns when he scored 39 seconds into the extra period.

Strathroy got the win on the strength of a great game by TJ Harris, who had two goals and one assist. Harris scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 13:34 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Rockets had gained a power play chance when Jordan Winter was whistled for inciting an opponent. Shane Bulitka assisted on the tally. Harris' next tally on the power play made the score 2-1 Strathroy with 4:53 left in the first period. Bulitka picked up the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 1:29 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

Strathroy forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. The Rockets had been averaging 22.0 minutes in penalties per game. Strathroy kept St. Marys' goalie busy throughout the game, and Paul Town made 30 saves on 35 shots. The Rockets' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, Strathroy averages 2.6 goals per contest. The Rockets took advantage of the Lincolns' penalties, tallying three goals off of four power play opportunities.

Strathroy also got points from Latina, who also had one goal and one assist. Strathroy also had goals scored by Wesley Kelly and Kieran Milne, who each put in one. In addition, Strathroy received assists from Matt Laberge, who had three and Evan Hogg and Noah Tooke, who contributed one each.

St. Marys was often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The Lincolns surpassed its season average of 14.0 penalty minutes per game. St. Marys forced Strathroy goalie Dan Davies to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

The Lincolns were helped by Graham Brulotte, who finished with one goal. Brulotte scored on the power play 36 seconds into the third period to make the score 4-4. Ryan Martin assisted on the tally. Others who scored for St. Marys included Phillip Buque, Nolan King, and Trent Dundas, who scored one goal each. More assists for St. Marys came via Matt Granger, Brent House, and Nick Whitworth, who each chipped in two.

Dan Davies made 33 saves for the Rockets on 37 shots. For Strathroy, Jeff Clarke was ejected from the game. St. Marys registered one goal on four power play opportunities. The Lincolns ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jack Wieringa was ejected from the game.
