St. Thomas beats Sarnia 3-0 as Black gains shutout

Dan Black was superb between the pipes for the St. Thomas Stars, as he did not allow a goal in a 3-0 victory over the Sarnia Legionnaires.

St. Thomas was sparked by Adam Keyes, who tallied one goal and one assist. Keyes scored 11:09 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Thomas.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 12:33 into the second period. Eight fighting penalties were dished out along with six game misconducts.

The Stars' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Sarnia power plays.

Others who scored for St. Thomas included Matt McJannet and Carson Brookshaw, who each put in one.

Sarnia excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Legionnaires were held below their usual level of production. Sarnia puts an average of 3.2 pucks into the net per game. The Legionnaires' offense rang up 31 shots on St. Thomas' net.

The Stars' Black stopped 31 shots out of the 31 that he faced. St. Thomas ended with 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors. For the Stars, Jake Reed and Gage Stephney were ejected from the contest. Aidan Hughes rejected 16 shots on goal for Sarnia. The Legionnaires ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and three majors. Team's Jarret Marks and Ethan Dupont were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
