Sarnia wins tough contest against St. Marys, 6-4Pyramid Recreation Centre Fri, Dec 04, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Sarnia Legionnaires and the St. Marys Lincolns were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Sarnia made the most of its opportunities and won, 6-4. The Legionnaires gained the winning advantage on a goal by Brock Perry 1:52 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. Perry had two goals and one assist to lead Sarnia. The Legionnaires' penalty kill excelled, as Sarnia gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays. The Legionnaires stifled St. Marys' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Sarnia's goal total was higher than its season average. The Legionnaires average 3.1 goals per game. Sarnia also got points from Brandon Layman, who also registered two goals and one assist. Sarnia also had goals scored by Jordan Fogarty and Joey Zappa, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Sarnia were Jarret Marks, who had two, Ryan Vendramin, who had three, and Jacob Stos, Sam McCormack, Zack Vanderwal, Ryan Trottier, and Brad Yowart, who contributed one each. Sarnia was unable to stop the Lincolns from sending pucks towards the net, and St. Marys eventually piled up 33 shots on goal. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. The Lincolns were led by Nick Whitworth, who had one goal and one assist. Whitworth scored 42 seconds into the second period to make the score 4-2 St. Marys. Brent House picked up the assist. St. Marys additionally got points from House, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for St. Marys included Dan Cloutier and Colin Capstick, who scored one goal each. Paul Town made 17 saves for St. Marys on 23 shots. The Lincolns incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For St. Marys, King and Jack Wieringa were ejected from the contest.
