Sarnia falls to Chatham in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Chatham Maroons' Steven Beenackers scored 4:27 into overtime to beat the Sarnia Legionnaires, 5-4 (OT).

Chatham overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Maroons fell behind 4-2 after a power play goal by Sarnia's Brandon Layman at 8:14 in the third period. Chatham tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Ross Krieger at 12:27 in the third period.

The Maroons were led by Beenackers, who registered one goal.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 12:46 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Legionnaires were unable to stop Chatham from sending pucks towards the net, and the Maroons eventually piled up 60 shots on goal.

Chatham additionally got points from Connor McKinnon, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Krieger, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Chatham also had goals scored by Gus Ford and Michael Levesque, who scored one goal each. In addition, Chatham received assists from Teddy McGeen and Blair Derynck, who each chipped in one and Connor Koviak and Austin Thompson, who contributed two each.

Sarnia excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Legionnaires' offense rang up 50 shots on Chatham's net.

Sarnia was led by Ryan Vendramin, who racked up two goals and one assist. Vendramin scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 19:22 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Legionnaires had gained a power play chance when Aaron Jacobs was whistled for cross checking. Brad Yowart picked up the assist. Vendramin's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Sarnia with 2:39 left in the second period. Jordan Fogarty assisted on the tally. Sarnia also got a goal from Jarret Marks as well. Other players who recorded assists for Sarnia were Jacob Stos and Ethan Dupont, who each chipped in one.

Parker Butler rejected 46 shots on goal for the Maroons. Chatham ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. For the Maroons, Cory Bussing was ejected from the game. Aidan Hughes recorded 55 saves for Sarnia. The Legionnaires totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 2-for-6 on the power play. Sarnia ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brendan Shagena was ejected from the game.
