Caledonia rips Welland, 4-1

Welland Arena    Sun, Nov 29, 2015

The Caledonia Corvairs had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 4-1 win over the Welland Jr. Canadians.

Caledonia pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 43 penalty minutes.

The Corvairs were paced by Austin Brown, who registered one goal and one assist. Brown scored on the power play 4:52 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Caledonia. A high sticking penalty on Nathan Ferris had put Caledonia on the power play. Blake Luscombe picked up the assist.

The Corvairs kept Welland's goalie busy throughout the game, and Chris Janzen made 28 saves on 32 shots. Caledonia managed to hold the Jr. Canadians' power play largely in check, allowing only one goal while on the disadvantage.

Others who scored for Caledonia included Mitch Graham, Ryan Punkari, and Daniel Volpe, who scored one goal each. In addition, Caledonia received assists from Quentin Maksimovich, who had two and Mitchell Fitzmorris, Chadd Bauman, Corey Pawley, and Matthew Hore, who each chipped in one.

Welland was led by Jack Fitzgerald, who scored the team's only goal. Fitzgerald scored on the power play 1:18 into the second period to make the score 1-1. The Jr. Canadians had gotten the advantage when the Corvairs' Jacob Bianchi was sent off for cross checking. Adam Barron assisted on the tally.
