LaSalle shrugs off penalties, upends St. Marys, 7-2

The LaSalle Vipers, which found themselves down a man often, weathered the St. Marys Lincolns' power play opportunities and emerged with a 7-2 victory.

LaSalle forced Lincolns' goalies to work without much rest, racking up 39 shots and forcing 32 saves. Paul Town made seven stops and Emanuel Vella made 25. The Vipers surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, LaSalle averages 4.0 goals per contest.

The Vipers were led by Maddux Rychel, who registered one goal and two assists. Rychel scored 16:47 into the third period to make the score 7-2 LaSalle. Kyle Auger picked up the assist. LaSalle also had goals scored by Liam MacDougall and Tyler Russell, who scored two goals each and James Brooks and Manny Silverio, who each put in one. More assists for LaSalle came via Eric Kirby, who had three and Zack Hoffman, Matthew Doucette, Michael Ruttinger, Brett Banwell, and Nolan Gardiner, who contributed one each.

St. Marys excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Lincolns kept LaSalle's goalie busy throughout the game, and Eli Billing made 34 saves on 36 shots.

St. Marys was helped by Graham Brulotte, who racked up one goal. Brulotte scored on the power play 8:18 into the third period to make the score 4-2 LaSalle. The Lincolns had gained a power play chance when Nathan Savage was whistled for unsportsmanlike conduct. Tom McHenry provided the assist. Nolan King also scored for St. Marys. In addition, St. Marys received assists from Brent House, Trent Dundas, and Colin Capstick, who each chipped in one.

The Vipers incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. St. Marys incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Lincolns ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brennan Stapleton was ejected from the game.
