St. Thomas beats St. Marys 9-0 as Nother gets hat trick

The St. Marys Lincolns could not stop the St. Thomas Stars' Ethan Nother, who tallied a hat trick in a 9-0 win.

Nother notched his first tally 7:52 into the first period. He then added goals at 5:49 into the second and at 3:18 into the third.

Dan Black spearheaded the defensive effort for St. Thomas, as he did not allow a puck past him and made 25 saves for the shutout. The solid play of Black will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.74.

The Stars' offense rang up 35 shots on St. Marys' net. St. Thomas outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Stars average 4.5 goals per contest.

St. Thomas also got points from Spencer Hutchinson, who also registered one goal and two assists, Matt McJannet, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Adam Keyes, who also had one goal and three assists. Cal Horvat also scored for St. Thomas. More assists for St. Thomas came via Andrew Chambers, who had two, Ryan Valentini, who had three, and James Newland, Adam Truax, Eric Henderson, and Carson Brookshaw, who contributed one each.

The Lincolns managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. St. Marys ended up below its season average of 13.0 penalty minutes per game. The Lincolns did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. St. Marys puts an average of 2.7 pucks into the net per game.

St. Thomas avoided the penalty box for the entire game and scored one goal off of one power plays. Paul Town rejected 26 shots on goal for the Lincolns. St. Marys registered zero goals on zero power play opportunities.
