Aidan Hughes stood on his head and made 37 saves to lead the Sarnia Legionnaires to a 3-1 victory over the Strathroy Rockets. Sarnia's penalty kill excelled, as the Legionnaires gave up zero goals despite allowing 10 power plays. Sarnia was led by Ryan Vendramin, who finished with one goal and one assist. Vendramin scored on the power play 1:36 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Sarnia. Brock Perry assisted on the tally. The Legionnaires stifled Strathroy's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Sarnia forced the Rockets goalie Dane Gubbels to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. Sarnia additionally got points from Brandon Layman, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Sarnia also got a goal from Zack Vanderwal as well. In addition, Sarnia received assists from Derrick Johnson, Jordan Fogarty, and PJ Vandervaart, who contributed one each. Strathroy's offense rang up 38 shots on the Legionnaires' net. The Rockets were led by Shane Bulitka, who scored the team's only goal. Bulitka scored 10:02 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Noah Tooke picked up the assist. Sarnia incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors. Dane Gubbels made 32 saves for Strathroy on 35 shots. The Rockets incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. |
