St. Marys beats Chatham 5-3 after comeback scare

The Chatham Maroons tried their best to erase a four-goal deficit, but the St. Marys Lincolns would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 5-3.

St. Marys made the score 5-1 on a goal by Jack Wieringa at 6:46 in the third period, and Chatham got as close as 5-3 when Austin Thompson scored 14:05 into the third period.

The Lincolns were led by Graham Brulotte, who tallied one goal. Brulotte scored 8:24 into the second period to make the score 2-1 St. Marys. Nick Whitworth assisted on the tally.

St. Marys kept the Maroons' goalie busy throughout the game, and Brendan Johnston made 31 saves on 36 shots. The Lincolns outdid their season average for goals scored. St. Marys averages 2.8 goals per game. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

St. Marys additionally got points from Brody Smith, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for St. Marys included Trent Dundas and Jeff Schrattner, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for St. Marys were Matt Granger, Phillip Buque, and Nolan King, who contributed one each and Brent House and Ryan Martin, who each chipped in two.

Chatham's offense rang up 43 shots on the Lincolns' net.

Ian Faubert also scored for Chatham. More assists for Chatham came via Gus Ford, who had two and Dede Cato and Teddy McGeen, who contributed one each.

Paul Town rejected 40 shots on goal for St. Marys. The Lincolns incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Maroons incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
