Sarnia rips St. Marys, 4-1

The St. Marys Lincolns had trouble finding ways to stop the Sarnia Legionnaires, which beat Lincolns, 4-1.

Ryan Vendramin had one goal and two assists to lead Sarnia. Vendramin scored on the power play 4:06 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Sarnia. The Legionnaires earned a power play opportunity when Colin Capstick was put in the box for cross checking. Brock Perry assisted on the tally.

Sarnia was led by goalie Shayne Battler, who finished with 29 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Battler will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.4.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 4:19 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Legionnaires forced St. Marys goalie Emanuel Vella to work between the pipes, taking 49 shots. Sarnia cashed in on power play opportunities, scoring three goals on five chances. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Sarnia also got a goal from Brad Yowart as well. Other players who recorded assists for Sarnia were Hunter Tyczynski, who had one and Brandon Layman, who had two.

The Legionnaires ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. Sarnia ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ryan Trottier was ejected from the game. The Lincolns' Vella stopped 45 shots out of the 49 that he faced. St. Marys totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. For the Lincolns, Tristan Gallant was ejected from the game.
