London rolls over Leamington, 5-2

The London Nationals were firing on all cylinders against the Leamington Flyers, and when the final buzzer sounded Nationals emerged with a 5-2 win.

Leamington's power play was ineffective against London's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Nationals were led by Austin Kemp, who registered one goal and one assist. Kemp scored 19:05 into the second period to make the score 3-1 London. Tanner Ferreira assisted on the tally.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 19:50 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

London was often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and two majors for 24 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 20.0 minutes per game the Nationals had been spending in the box. London's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Leamington power plays.

London also had goals scored by Scott Goodman, Rai Di Loreto, Jordan Di Cicco, and Trevor Dulong, who each put in one. In addition, London received assists from Derek Di Iorio, Callum Ruddock, and Kyle Robinson, who each chipped in one and Kevin Madden and John Warren, who contributed two each.

The Flyers forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and three majors for 41 minutes in penalty time. Leamington surpassed its season average of 34.0 penalty minutes per game. The Nationals were unable to stop the Flyers from sending pucks towards the net, and Leamington eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. The Flyers' defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. Leamington gives up 2.1 goals per game.

The Flyers were led by Luke Sanko, who had one goal. Sanko scored 15:06 into the second period to make the score 2-1 London. Zak Parlette picked up the assist. Colin Moore also scored for Leamington. More assists for Leamington came via Zach Guilbeault and Mitchell Amante, who each chipped in one.

Connor Hughes rejected 30 shots on goal for London. The Nationals registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. Team's Di Iorio and Sam Harris were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Michael Barrett took the loss and made 20 saves before being replaced by Tyler Wall who made two saves. For Leamington, Parlette, Scott Emerson, and Amante were ejected from the contest.
