Hilton nets hat trick, leads Ancaster to 6-4 win over Welland

The Welland Jr. Canadians could not stop the Ancaster Avalanche's Jesse Hilton, who tallied a hat trick in a 6-4 win.

Hilton's first goal came 18:25 into the first period. He then added goals at 8:45 into the third and at 13:19 into the third.

Ancaster put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Welland to score on any of its three power plays. The Jr. Canadians were unable to stop the Avalanche from sending pucks towards the net, and Ancaster eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

Ancaster additionally got points from Ben Hughes, who also had two goals and two assists. Ryan Cox also scored for Ancaster. More assists for Ancaster came via Lucas Pozzobon, who had one and Michael Pollice and Ryan Knill, who contributed two each.

Welland forced the Avalanche goalie Matt Calas to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

The Jr. Canadians were led by Steven Farano, who finished with two goals. Farano scored the first of his two goals at 16:31 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Welland. Ryan Miotto picked up the assist. Farano's next tally made the score 4-2 Welland with 15:52 left in the third period. Derrick Low assisted on the tally. Others who scored for Welland included Max Cipriano and Cameron Aitken, who scored one goal each. In addition, Welland received assists from Chad Maurice, Jack Fitzgerald, Dorian Maye, Matt Martin, and Jake Shaw, who each chipped in one.

Calas recorded 28 saves for Ancaster. The Avalanche incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. Chris Janzen rejected 25 shots on goal for Welland. The Jr. Canadians incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
