Caledonia shrugs off penalties, upends Thorold, 5-2

The Thorold Blackhawks failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Caledonia Corvairs shook off a number of penalties to win, 5-2.

Caledonia was paced by Jake Brown, who registered one goal. Brown scored 4:57 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Caledonia. Blake Luscombe assisted on the tally.

In a losing effort, Thorold was led by Anton Trublin, who racked up two goals. Trublin scored the first of his two goals short handed at 6:49 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Thorold. The Blackhawks played down a man on David D`Agostino's slashing. Mitchell Mendonca picked up the assist. Trublin's next tally short handed made the score 2-0 Thorold with 12:47 left in the second period. Thorold had taken the advantage when the Corvairs' Brown got sent off for high sticking. Zach Stamates provided the assist.

Caledonia kept the Blackhawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Josh Astorino made 43 saves on 48 shots. The Corvairs had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on 11 chances. Caledonia struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 68 penalty minutes for nine opposing power plays.

Caledonia additionally got points from Matthew Hore, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Caledonia included Matt McCartney, Matt Rimac, and Todd Ratchford, who scored one goal each. In addition, Caledonia received assists from Nick Zottl, who had two and Mitch Graham, Mitchell Fitzmorris, Quentin Maksimovich, Johnathon Schaefer, and Tait Seguin, who each chipped in one.

Thorold could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

More assists for Thorold came via Tyler Sehovic and Daniel Pugliese, who contributed one each.

Mark Sinclair recorded 15 saves for the Corvairs. For the Blackhawks, Cosimo Amore was ejected from the game.
