Welland outlasts Niagara Falls, 3-2

The Welland Jr. Canadians gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Niagara Falls Canucks.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Cole Hamilton's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Welland's penalty kill excelled, as the Jr. Canadians gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Welland was paced by Hamilton, who had one goal. Hamilton scored 18:21 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Welland. Nathan MacDuff provided the assist.

The Jr. Canadians stifled Niagara Falls' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Welland also got points from Andy Paul, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Welland also got a goal from Matt Martin as well. Other players who recorded assists for Welland were Caleb Ambrosio, Dorian Maye, and Steven Farano, who each chipped in one.

The Canucks forced Welland goalie Chris Janzen to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Niagara Falls was helped by Matthew Marsden, who registered one goal. Marsden scored 5:27 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Luke Laurin assisted on the tally. Taggart Ledyard also scored for Niagara Falls. In addition, Niagara Falls received assists from Frank Pucci, Thomas Flack, and Peter Falivena, who contributed one each.

Chris Janzen made 31 saves for the Jr. Canadians on 33 shots. Welland incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Joseph Murdaca recorded 22 saves for the Canucks. Niagara Falls incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
