Leamington downs St. Thomas, 8-1

Luke Sanko finished with two points to lead the Leamington Flyers to an 8-1 victory over the St. Thomas Stars.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 7:49 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Leamington forced Stars' goalies to work all game long, ripping 45 shots and forcing 37 saves. Dan Black made 22 stops and Nikolas Dampier made 15. The Flyers surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Leamington averages 4.2 goals per contest.

Leamington also got points from Joe Urbanic, who also registered one goal and one assist, Scott Emerson, who also had one goal and one assist, and Zach Guilbeault, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Leamington also had goals scored by Mark Gangnon, who had two and Thomas Virban and Travis Campbell, who each put in one. In addition, Leamington received assists from Scott Florence, who had two and Nicolas Mainella, Jacob McGhee, Cale Allen, Mitchell Amante, and Liam Hogan, who each chipped in one.

St. Thomas could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Stars put an average of 3.8 pucks into the net per game.

St. Thomas was led by Andrew Chambers, who scored the team's only goal. Chambers scored 17 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Thomas. Ryan Valentini picked up the assist.

Michael Barrett made 23 saves for the Flyers on 24 shots. Leamington totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. For the Flyers, Allen was ejected from the game. The Stars totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. St. Thomas ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Cal Horvat was ejected from the game.
