The Kitchener Dutchmen's Taite Wirschke scored 27 seconds into overtime to beat the Elmira Sugar Kings, 6-5 (OT). Although Kitchener was up by as many as two goals in the third period, Elmira kept the game interesting by staging a comeback that ultimately fell short. The Sugar Kings got to within 5-4 on a goal by Zac Coulter at 12:56 in the third period. The Dutchmen forced Elmira goalie Liam Conway to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. Kitchener gave up more goals than its normal season average. The Dutchmen average 2.3 goals allowed per game. Kitchener's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. The Dutchmen were led by Owen Lane, who registered two goals. Lane scored the first of his two goals at 6:31 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Nathan Grossi assisted on the tally. Lane's next tally made the score 4-3 Kitchener with 12:31 left in the third period. Kitchener had taken the advantage when the Sugar Kings' Ryan Walsh got sent off for high sticking. Jason Willms picked up the assist. Kitchener additionally got points from Connor Cole, who also had one goal and one assist and Adam Kawalec, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Logan Schmidt also scored for Kitchener. In addition, Kitchener received assists from Matthew Cruickshank, who had one and Marselis Subban, who had two. The Dutchmen were unable to stop Elmira from sending pucks towards the net, and the Sugar Kings eventually piled up 33 shots on goal. Elmira struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 26 penalty minutes for eight opposing power plays. Elmira also got points from Jeff Jordan, who also tallied one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. Elmira also had goals scored by Quinten Bruce and Jake Moggy, who scored one goal each. More assists for Elmira came via Ethan Skinner, who had four. Kitchener's Cossimo Lazzarino stopped 28 shots out of the 33 that he faced. The Dutchmen incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Conway rejected 25 shots on goal for the Sugar Kings. Elmira registered one goal on seven power play opportunities.
