Cambridge rides Savory to victory over Elmira, 3-1

Galt Arena Gardens    Sat, Oct 10, 2015

The Cambridge Winter Hawks relied on the sparkling performance of Owen Savory in net to grab a 3-1 win against the Elmira Sugar Kings.

Cambridge was led by Cole Cummings, who registered one goal. Cummings scored on the power play 3:48 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Cambridge. The Winter Hawks had gotten the advantage when Elmira's Ryan Walsh was sent off for tripping.

Cambridge stifled the Sugar Kings' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Winter Hawks kept Elmira's goalie busy throughout the game, and Liam Conway made 32 saves on 35 shots.

Others who scored for Cambridge included Robert Proner and Chris Poletek, who scored one goal each. More assists for Cambridge came via Rob Grant, who had one.

The Sugar Kings did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Elmira puts an average of 3.7 pucks into the net per game. The Sugar Kings' offense rang up 32 shots on Cambridge's net.

The Winter Hawks' Savory stopped 31 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Cambridge incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Elmira incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
