Broomhead's hat trick boosts Stratford over Waterloo, 12-9

Hayden Broomhead lifted the Stratford Cullitons to a 12-9 victory with a hat trick against the Waterloo Siskins.

Broomhead notched his first tally 10:05 into the first period. He then added goals at 5:20 into the second and at 11:20 into the second.

Waterloo fell victim to a deadly Stratford power play, which ripped the Siskins for five goals.

The Cullitons forced Waterloo's goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, taking 40 shots and forcing 28 saves. Mitchell Datz made nine stops and Bailey DeGasperis made 19. Stratford outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Cullitons average 4.9 goals per contest. Stratford got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Stratford additionally got points from Jared Nash, who also had three goals and five assists, Zach Van Louwe, who also registered one goal and one assist, Tyson Baker, who also tallied one goal and five assists, and Justin Graham, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Stratford included Cooper Stahl, Brock Heshka, and Josh Higgins, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Stratford were Jack Scanlan, who had two and Quinton Haddock, Mathieu Mercier, and Josh Miller, who contributed one each.

The Siskins' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 26.0 minutes per game Waterloo had been spending in the box. The Siskins forced the Cullitons goalie Carson Poulin to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. Waterloo bested its season scoring average. The Siskins average 3.0 goals per game. Waterloo was effective with a man advantage, and put in four goals while on the power play.

The Siskins were led by Nate Schnarr, who finished with three goals and one assist. Waterloo also got points from Graham Evans, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Gary Mantz, who also tallied two goals and two assists, Austin Bentley, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Connor Bodnar, who also registered one goal and two assists. Ryan Sparkes also scored for Waterloo. In addition, Waterloo received assists from Luke Gazzola, who had two and Andrew Lane, Joshua Slegers, Brett Wilson, Nick King, Nick Hirst, Matt Bourbeau, and Owen Kipkie, who each chipped in one.

Poulin rejected 28 shots on goal for Stratford. The Cullitons incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. For Waterloo, Brett Schaefer was ejected from the game.
