Early goals doom Pelham, falls to St. Catharines, 8-0

The Pelham Panthers fell behind early, and the St. Catharines Falcons kept piling on the points on the way to an 8-0 victory.

St. Catharines got the win behind a great game by Nicholas Dozzi, who had two goals and one assist. Dozzi scored the first of his two goals at 18 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Catharines. Brandon Cercone picked up the assist. Dozzi's next tally made the score 3-0 St. Catharines with 15:11 left in the first period. Jake Evans assisted on the tally.

The Falcons forced Panthers' goalies to work without much rest, totaling 47 shots and forcing 39 saves. Corey Foster made six stops and Stephen Harvey made 33. St. Catharines excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Falcons outdid their season average for goals scored. St. Catharines averages 4.7 goals per game. The Falcons' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

St. Catharines also got points from Griffin Roubos, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Tyler Hildebrandt, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for St. Catharines included Ty Learn, who had two and Justin Felker and Jackson Parker, who each put in one. More assists for St. Catharines came via Evan Denley, who had one, Phillip Chadder, who had three, and Broderick Kelly, Tyler Jackson, and Manny Manns, who each chipped in two.

Pelham forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The Panthers had been averaging 25.0 minutes in penalties per game. Pelham was held below its usual level of production. The Panthers average 2.5 goals per game.

Cameron Gray made 21 saves for St. Catharines on 21 shots. The Falcons totaled 27 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 2-for-6 on the power play. For St. Catharines, Evans was ejected from the game. Pelham ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mitch Rossit was ejected from the game.
