Brampton beats Stratford 3-2 after comeback scare

The Brampton Bombers survived a determined comeback attempt by the Stratford Cullitons on the way to a 3-2 win.

Brampton made the score 3-1 on a goal by Tyler Woolcott(AP) at 16:10 in the third period, and Stratford got as close as 3-2 when Deven Kropf scored 18:01 into the third period.

Yianni Liarakos had two goals to lead the Bombers to victory. Liarakos scored at 7:04 into the second period to make the score 1-1 and again while 9:30 into the third to make the score 2-1 Brampton.

Brampton stifled the Cullitons' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Bombers found themselves short handed often, totaling 26 penalty minutes and allowing eight power plays.

In addition, Brampton received assists from Mike Rehding, who had two and Justin Coles, Jordan Oshowy(AP), Patrick Zilak, and Dante Cannatella(AP), who each chipped in one.

Stratford's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Brampton power plays. The Cullitons did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Stratford puts an average of 4.1 pucks into the net per game. The Cullitons forced Brampton goalie Jason Rhynold to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots. Stratford could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Cullitons were helped by Hayden Broomhead, who registered one goal. Broomhead scored 11 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Stratford. More assists for Stratford came via Anthony Kotsovos and Jack Scanlan, who contributed one each.

Jason Rhynold made 36 saves for the Bombers on 38 shots. Stratford's Nick Redman stopped 27 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Cullitons ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Zach Van Louwe was ejected from the game.
