Listowel holds on for 2-1 win against Cambridge

The Cambridge Winter Hawks tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Listowel Cyclones held on for a 2-1 victory.

Listowel took a 2-0 lead during the second period, only to have Cambridge storm back on a Cole Cummings goal 22 seconds into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Winter Hawks were stymied by the Cyclones' netminder Tyler Fassl, who stopped 27 shots during the victory. Fassl certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.88 entering the contest.

Listowel was led by Jordan Caskenette, who finished with one goal. Caskenette scored 15:58 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Listowel. Caleb Warren assisted on the tally.

The Cyclones put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Cambridge to score on any of its five power plays.

Listowel also got a goal from Brady Anderson as well. In addition, Listowel received assists from Jakob Lee, Blake Nichol, and Tim Nauta, who contributed one each.

The Winter Hawks stifled Listowel's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Other players who recorded assists for Cambridge were Chris Poletek, who had one.

The Cyclones totaled 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 0-for-4 on the power play. Team's Anderson and Holdyn Lansink were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Cambridge's Owen Savory stopped 27 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Winter Hawks ended with 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors. For Cambridge, Kyle Heitzner, Zack Hedley, and Matt Steen were ejected from the contest.
