London uses early goal to top St. Marys, 2-1

Kevin Madden scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the London Nationals held off the challenges of the St. Marys Lincolns in a tough 2-1 win.

London took over the lead for good with a goal by Madden at 18:15 in the first period. Jordan Di Cicco picked up the assist.

St. Marys was stymied by the Nationals' netminder Zack Weir, who stopped 28 shots during the victory. Weir certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.6 entering the contest.

London's penalty kill excelled, as the Nationals gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

The Lincolns were unable to stop London from sending pucks towards the net, and the Nationals eventually piled up 44 shots on goal.

London was helped by Tanner Ferreira, who finished with one goal. Ferreira scored on the power play 6:44 into the second period to make the score 2-0 London. The Nationals had taken the advantage when St. Marys' Nick Whitworth got sent off for roughing. Derek Di Iorio assisted on the tally. In addition, London received assists from Matt Doty and John Warren, who contributed one each.

The Lincolns did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. St. Marys averages 3.2 goals per game.

The Lincolns were led by Matt Granger, who scored the team's only goal. Granger scored on the power play 19:54 into the second period to make the score 2-1 London. St. Marys earned a power play opportunity when Kyle Robinson was put in the box for high sticking. Ryan Martin picked up the assist.

London incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. For the Nationals, Rai Di Loreto was ejected from the game. Paul Town rejected 42 shots on goal for the Lincolns. St. Marys incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
