Cambridge blows out Brampton, 6-2

The Cambridge Winter Hawks were firing on all cylinders against the Brampton Bombers, and when the final buzzer sounded Winter Hawks emerged with a 6-2 win.

Cambridge was led by Alex Mutton, who had one goal. Mutton scored 14:35 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Cambridge. Cole Cummings assisted on the tally.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 4:26 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

The Winter Hawks were often in penalty trouble, totaling 10 minors and two majors for 40 minutes in penalty time. Cambridge had been averaging 22.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Winter Hawks found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Cambridge averages 2.8 goals per game. Team could not crack Brampton's penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having 14 opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Cambridge additionally got points from Kyle Heitzner, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Cambridge included Beau Goehrum, Rob Grant, Zack Hedley, and Jake Beard, who scored one goal each. More assists for Cambridge came via Nolan Smith and Liam Hurley, who each chipped in one.

The Bombers racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 10 minors and one major for 45 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 32.0 minutes per game Brampton had been spending in the box. The Winter Hawks were unable to stop the Bombers from sending pucks towards the net, and Brampton eventually piled up 39 shots on goal.

The Bombers were led by Ramon Lopez, who registered one goal and one assist. Lopez scored on the power play 12:40 into the third period to make the score 6-2 Cambridge. Brampton had gained a power play chance when Mutton was whistled for unsportsmanlike conduct. Mike Rehding picked up the assist. Mitch Shennette also scored for Brampton. In addition, Brampton received assists from Adel Zivojevic and Jordan Kreller, who contributed one each.

Owen Savory made 37 saves for Cambridge on 39 shots. For the Winter Hawks, Matt Harding, Chris Poletek, and Mutton were ejected from the contest. The Bombers' Michael Antonio Vergara stopped 19 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Brampton registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. Team's Justin Coles, Carmine Vietri, and Nick Kiriakos were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
