Brampton falls to Waterloo in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Waterloo Siskins pulled out a 5-4 (OT) overtime victory over the Brampton Bombers on a clutch goal by Gary Mantz.

Waterloo was sparked by Mantz, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Mantz scored 4:42 into overtime to make the score 5-4 Waterloo. Thomas Haffner assisted on the tally.

In a losing effort, Brampton was led by Ramon Lopez, who had two goals. Lopez scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 14:40 into the second period to make the score 3-3. The Bombers earned a power play opportunity when Brett Wilson was put in the box for interference. Mitch Shennette provided the assist. Lopez's next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Brampton with 1:23 left in the second period. Nick Kiriakos picked up the assist.

The Siskins kept Brampton's goalie busy throughout the game, and Michael Antonio Vergara made 35 saves on 40 shots. Waterloo found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Siskins average 2.8 goals per contest. Waterloo could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 66 minutes in penalties during the game.

Waterloo also got points from Graham Evans, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Nate Schnarr, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Waterloo also had goals scored by Mitchell Rooney and Ryan Sparkes, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Waterloo were Andrew Lane, Nick King, and Joel Penticost, who contributed one each.

The Bombers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. The Siskins were unable to stop Brampton from sending pucks towards the net, and the Bombers eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. Brampton outdid its season average for goals scored. The Bombers average 1.8 goal per game. Brampton was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 30 penalty minutes.

Others who scored for Brampton included Anthony Pullicino and Jordan Kreller, who scored one goal each. More assists for Brampton came via Carmine Vietri, who had one.

Waterloo's Bailey DeGasperis stopped 28 shots out of the 32 that he faced. For the Siskins, Joshua Slegers and Austin Bentley were ejected from the contest. The Bombers registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
