M1 Mercyhurst University pulls away in second, rolls over M1 John Carroll University, 8-1

The M1 Mercyhurst University Lakers scored four goals in the second period to pull away from the M1 John Carroll University Blue Streaks and clinch an 8-1 win.

Kevin Valasek was all over the ice for M1 Mercyhurst University, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Valasek scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 6:52 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Lakers earned a power play opportunity when Brady Wells was put in the box for hooking. Jesse Valasek assisted on the tally. Valasek's next tally on the power play made the score 2-1 M1 Mercyhurst University with 4:50 left in the first period. Valasek picked up the assist.

M1 Mercyhurst University stifled M1 John Carroll University's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Lakers found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. M1 Mercyhurst University averages 5.2 goals per game. The Lakers' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. The 44 shots that M1 Mercyhurst University put on net surpassed the Lakers' average of 2.4 shots per game this season.

M1 Mercyhurst University also got points from Jonah Jobin, who also racked up three goals and two assists to lead the team in points and Valasek, who also had one goal and three assists. M1 John Carroll University's starting goalie, Dustin Stevens, made 20 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Matthew Russell, who stopped 16 shots. The Blue Streaks incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
