Picton holds on for 5-3 win against Campbellford

The Campbellford Rebels tried to dig themselves out of a four-goal hole, but the Picton Pirates held on for a 5-3 victory.

Picton made the score 5-1 on a goal by Gerald Bilker at 18:09 in the third period, and Campbellford got as close as 5-3 when Jeremiah Doherty scored 18:52 into the third period.

The Pirates got the win behind a great game by Nick Devito, who had one goal and three assists. Devito scored 10:22 into the third period to make the score 4-1 Picton. Nate Kellar assisted on the tally.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 19:54 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Picton racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 51 minutes in penalty time. The Pirates surpassed its season average of 23.0 penalty minutes per game.

Picton also had goals scored by Mitch Thompson, TJ Patterson, and Riley Reynolds, who scored one goal each. More assists for Picton came via James Pero, Devin McCann, and Mitch Burke, who each chipped in one.

The Rebels forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. Campbellford had been averaging 23.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Others who scored for Campbellford included Riley McGuire and Brenan Rylott, who each put in one. In addition, Campbellford received assists from Graiden Maynard, who had one.

Charles Grimard took the win and made 16 saves before being replaced by Kevin Valdez who made four saves. Picton registered one goal on four power play opportunities. For the Pirates, Trey Maracle was ejected from the game. The Rebels' Stark Travis AP stopped 23 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Campbellford registered one goal on six power play opportunities. The Rebels ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and McGuire was ejected from the game.
