Port Hope shrugs off penalties, upends Napanee, 4-0

The Napanee Raiders failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Port Hope Panthers shook off a number of penalties to win, 4-0.

Port Hope was led by Dan Lagrois, who finished with one goal. Lagrois scored on the power play 14:06 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Port Hope. The Panthers had taken the advantage when Napanee's Austin Boulard got sent off for interference. Cameron McGill assisted on the tally.

Port Hope was often in penalty trouble, totaling 13 minors and one major for 101 minutes in penalty time. The Panthers surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. Port Hope's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Napanee power plays. The Panthers forced the Raiders goalie Cameron Parr to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Port Hope additionally got points from Shawn Mackie, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Port Hope also had goals scored by Josh Gervais and Blane Gaudon, who each put in one. In addition, Port Hope received assists from Cameron Lowery, Andrew Gurr, Dalton Lawrence, and Evan Foley, who contributed one each.

Napanee forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 11 minors and one major for 77 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 22.0 minutes per game the Raiders had been spending in the box. Napanee did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Raiders average 4.1 goals per game.

Aaron Young made 18 saves for Port Hope on 18 shots. The Panthers registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. For Port Hope, Ben Grieve and Matthew Cavanaugh were ejected from the contest. Parr recorded 27 saves for Napanee. The Raiders ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Cullen Hinds was ejected from the game.
